The Benefits of Being a Carbon Capture Project in the Coorest Ecosystem
Access to the Voluntary Carbon Market
The voluntary carbon market is a thriving multi-billion dollar industry and is a major opportunity for anyone that has the chance to participate in it.
The increasingly stricter government policies are prompting more businesses to become carbon neutral. As a consequence, the demand for carbon compensation is growing constantly.
It is difficult to say if there is even an upper limit to the price of carbon compensation, let alone to determine what that might be. Additionally, being a part of the carbon market gives a landowner access to carbon buyers from all over the world. There will always be a demand for carbon compensation and a supplier of such a product won’t depend on a single buyer or group of buyers.
Revenue From Carbon Compensation
Every forest, farm and plantation already generates a priceless product in the form of carbon compensation. A landowner needs only to register their property as a carbon capture project to take advantage of the product their property is already producing. Once this is formally registered as carbon emission compensation, it can be sold as a valuable commodity on the voluntary carbon market. This can help landowners acquire an additional source of revenue, which can finance the purchase of land and equipment, necessary for planting additional trees and expanding operations.
Initial Cost Comparison
Coorest has the only certified carbon compensation methodology that does not charge its carbon projects for onboarding. This approach provides landowners with the opportunity to participate in the program and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions without having to incur any costs. This is extremely valuable for small and medium-sized landowners, especially in developing countries, where such projects have very limited access to capital or resources.
What Coorest does is in stark contrast to the established system, in which the majority of the existing carbon offset registries require carbon projects to pay a significant fee to cover the costs of their onboarding process. This fee is typically charged per hectare of the project and can range anywhere from 300 to 1,700 euros per hectare.
By eliminating the onboarding fees, Coorest lifts the barrier to entry into the voluntary carbon market and allows more organisations to participate in it.
Retained Earnings Comparison
The project owners in the carbon offset market retain very little earnings from the sale of their carbon offsets. CarbonBank pays its project owners 1 euro per ton of absorbed carbon while they take on the risks and financial burden of managing the land and trees for 20 years. Meanwhile, CarbonBank sells those offsets at a price of € 90 per unit. In this example, the retained earnings are slightly more than 1%. However, this is far from being the only example of such practices.
With Coorest, landowners can sell their carbon compensation directly to the buyer. The only applicable fees are for claiming and transferring CO2 compensation on the Coorest application. If a project absorbs 10 tons of CO2 for example, the fees for claiming it are only 8% of the total or 800 kg of CO2. This means that the landowner retains 92% of their earnings.
An Additional Revenue Stream That Helps the Planet
Since landowners already spend the necessary time and resources to manage and maintain their properties, they can easily tap into an additional revenue stream at no additional costs. This is especially true for forest carbon capture projects. The investment and effort spent in setting up such a project and maintaining it is only a fraction of building and managing a rental property.
Creating a carbon capture project also helps preserve our planet. Purchasing land with the intention of using it for forestation or agriculture saves it from being used for industrial purposes, thereby reducing pollution and having a positive impact on the environment. Planting trees helps fight global warming and enriches the local biodiversity. Lastly, the produce from fruit tree orchards and plantations helps support local communities and keeps agricultural practices alive.
